Biomass is an indispensable pillar in achieving climate goals and the transition to a fossil-free society. While biomass was previously primarily seen as an energy source, current policy (such as the national Biobased Economy Roadmap and European directives) are now paying close attention to the cascading of raw materialsThis means that biomass is first used for high-value applications such as building materials and chemical building blocks, and only in the final phase for energy generation.
In agriculture, biomass is and will remain crucial for maintaining soil fertility and capturing carbon (carbon farming). Policy now focuses on an integrated system in which economic value and ecological benefits go hand in hand. Through strict certification and sustainability criteria, we ensure that the use of biomass actually contributes to biodiversity and a net CO2 reduction, paving the way for a fully circular economy by 2050.
