Biomass installations must comply with Dutch legislation, such as the Nature Conservation Act and the Activities Decree for emission standards. The Activities Decree has its own description of biomass and therefore also other conditions for issuing a permit. There are differences in the size of the installations and therefore also in the requirements they must meet. Especially in the built environment, the emission requirements for smaller installations will become stricter, with the larger industrial biomass plants already complying with these stricter laws and regulations. This is mainly due to the investments in purifying all emissions.
