Modern biochemistry allows us to break down and transform the complex structures of biomass—such as sugars, fats, and proteins. By using enzymes and fermentation processes (often with the help of microorganisms like yeasts or bacteria), we create sustainable alternatives to the traditional chemical industry.

The focus within biochemistry is now on:

  • Bio-aromatics and Polymers: Developing biobased plastics (such as PEF or PLA) that are fully recyclable or biodegradable.

  • High Quality Extraction: Extracting specific ingredients such as dyes, fragrances and pharmaceutical ingredients from residual flows.

  • CO02 utilization: Chemical processes in which CO2, in combination with biomass or hydrogen, is converted into new raw materials.

By understanding the chemical foundations of nature, we can build an industry that not only has a lower environmental impact, but actively contributes to a circular world.
