European Biomethane Week opened today in Brussels. The third edition runs from Monday, October 13th, to Friday, October 17th, and brings together policy, trade, and technology. The week's core event is the European Biogas Conference on Tuesday, October 14th, and Wednesday, October 15th, at Autoworld. There will also be a masterclass on Monday at the NH Brussels EU Berlaymont Hotel, followed by additional sessions and networking opportunities later in the week. The week is organized by the European Biogas Association with support from European partners.
Scaling up in Europe requires choices
Biomethane can quickly contribute to the sustainability of the gas system because it fits into existing pipelines and installations. With the target of 35 billion cubic meters by 2030, as stipulated in the REPowerEU package, the sector is under time pressure. The week in Brussels focuses on how projects can be bankable more quickly, how certification and trade can evolve, and how Member States shape market regulation. The Biomethane Industrial Partnership serves as an anchor point in this effort, with its mission to achieve the European target and prepare for further growth towards 2050.
Program in Brussels
Monday begins with an in-depth masterclass on certification and market access. Tuesday and Wednesday will focus on the content, with plenary presentations, technical sessions, and meetings between producers, buyers, and financiers. The rest of the week is reserved for additional meetings and award ceremonies, both in Brussels and online. Registration is available for fees and locations.
Policy and market move together
The combination of the conference, masterclass, and networking opportunities demonstrates that policy questions and market development are inextricably linked. European institutions and the business community are using the week to reflect on priorities, for example, regarding the integration of agriculture and waste streams, the role of guarantees of origin, and the conclusion of long-term offtake agreements. The timing is relevant for Dutch parties, given the growing demand for green gas in the built environment and mobility, and the need for clear rules for permitting and certification.
The European Biogas Conference will take place on October 14th and 15th at Autoworld in Brussels. The masterclass will be held on October 13th at the NH Brussels EU Berlaymont Hotel. Registration and further details are available on the European Biomethane Week website.
