ChemistryNL makes €5 million available for public-private partnerships that contribute to a sustainable chemical sector. Project proposals can be submitted until 16 September 2025.
The new funding round focuses on three themes: water quality and monitoring, carbon capture & utilisation (CCU), and bio-based resources for circular materials. Each theme will receive one third of the total budget, with a maximum subsidy of €150.000 per project.
Focus on cleaner water
Within the theme of water quality and monitoring, the emphasis is on technological innovations that contribute to cleaner and more efficient water use. This can vary from new separation techniques and process optimization to the use of smart measurement systems that provide real-time insight into water flows.
Circular materials from bio-based raw materials
Proposals within the third theme focus on the production of circular materials based on bio-based raw materials. The focus is on developing new processes and building blocks, preferably using second generation biomass. The conversion to platform chemicals and specialist applications is also part of this call.
Innovations in CO₂ conversion
The theme carbon capture & utilisation (CCU) offers scope for the development of technologies that not only capture CO₂, but also use it as a raw material. The link with renewable energy sources and the upscaling to industrial applications make this an important focus area within the energy transition.
Practical information and conditions
Projects must be completed by the end of 2030 at the latest. Applications will only be considered if submitted by a consortium of at least one knowledge institution and one private party. The required co-financing depends on the type of research. For non-SME participants, at least half of the contribution must be provided in cash.
