From 1 April 2025, entrepreneurs and researchers can apply for new subsidy opportunities for sustainable innovations in the built environment through the Energy & Climate Research and Development (EKOO) scheme. This scheme places a strong emphasis on innovative solutions for making homes and utility buildings more sustainable, including the use of biobased materials and circular applications.
The EKOO scheme stimulates research and development in various areas within sustainable construction. In addition to circular and biobased materials, other innovations aimed at energy saving, climate adaptation and CO₂ reduction can also be eligible. For example, subsidies are available for projects that apply sustainable construction methods and come onto the market no later than 2029.
Budget and application period
The total budget for innovations in the built environment has been increased to €3,5 million, an increase of €0,7 million compared to last year. Entrepreneurs and research organisations who want to benefit from these subsidy opportunities can submit their applications from 1 April 2025.
Interested parties can participate in a webinar on the EKOO: Built Environment on April 1 from 11:00 to 12:00, in which the scheme will be explained in more detail and questions can be asked.
With this subsidy, the government underlines the importance of sustainable innovations in the construction sector. It offers entrepreneurs and researchers a chance to contribute to a more sustainable future and at the same time benefit from financial support.
