The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) has announced that the opening of the Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition (SDE++) subsidy for 2025 has been postponed by one month. Entrepreneurs can submit their applications from 7 October to 6 November 2025. This postponement offers extra time to prepare high-quality applications.
In order to improve the quality of the applications, RVO offers entrepreneurs the opportunity to discuss their projects with an advisor in advance. A form will soon be made available on the RVO website with which an advisory meeting can be requested. This support is intended to increase the chance of success of subsidy applications.
Specific budget for less profitable techniques
In the SDE++ 2025, €8 billion has been made available, of which €750 million has been reserved for technologies that are currently less profitable, but crucial for future sustainability. This concerns low-temperature heat, high-temperature heat and the production of molecules such as green gas and hydrogen.
Introduction of new subsidy options
This year, new subsidy options have been introduced. Entrepreneurs can now apply for subsidies for installations that capture CO₂ directly from the air, known as Direct Air Capture (DAC). This technology can supply CO₂ to greenhouse horticulture as a fertilizer for plants. In addition, subsidies are available for installations that recover hydrogen from residual waste and for various new applications of solar panels.
Termination of certain subsidy categories
Some categories are no longer eligible for the SDE++ subsidy, in particular techniques for which no applications have been submitted in the past three years. This includes installations that generate energy using osmosis, daylight greenhouses, hydropower installations with a drop of 50 cm or more, ultra-deep geothermal energy and boilers on B-wood.
With the postponement of the opening and the introduction of new subsidy options, the SDE++ 2025 offers entrepreneurs extra time and opportunities to contribute to sustainable energy production and CO₂ reduction. It is advisable to make use of the support offered in time when preparing subsidy applications.
