During the annual WOCODA event, which focuses on innovative housing concepts and sustainable public housing, an important milestone was reached in the transition to biobased construction on 30 January. Eight leading construction companies – BAM Wonen, BARLI, Bouwgroep Dijkstra Draisma, GeWoonhout, Heddes, Heijmans, Hurks and Plegt-Vos – jointly signed a declaration of commitment with Building Balance. In doing so, they confirm their commitment to realising the ambitious goals of the National Approach to Biobased Construction (NABB).
The '30-30-30' initiative
Under the heading “30-30-30” the joint goal is clear: by 2030, 30% of new-build homes (up to a maximum of five floors) must consist of at least 30% biobased building materials. This objective is not only a call for innovation in the use of materials, but also requires intensive cooperation within the entire construction chain. The parties involved are determined to take the necessary steps towards a large-scale scaling up of sustainable building materials.
A strong signal from the sector
The choice to realise this commitment at WOCODA underlines the symbolic value of this moment. After all, WOCODA is known as the event where the latest developments in the field of housing concepts and sustainable social housing are central. The initiative sends a strong signal that the sector is ready for the transition to more sustainable construction.
A Building Balance spokesperson noted during the signing ceremony:

The road to 2030
The transition to biobased building materials requires an integrated approach. In addition to developing and applying innovative materials, cooperation between producers, architects, contractors and policymakers is crucial. The signed declaration of commitment therefore forms an important foundation for further cooperation within the sector. By jointly sharing knowledge, investing in research and development and creating a stimulating market for biobased materials, the parties involved can achieve the ambitious objective.
