From residual flows to wind farms
From 28 January 2025, entrepreneurs can again submit applications for the Demonstration Energy and Climate Innovation (DEI+) subsidies. This year, the total budget has increased to €370 million, a significant increase compared to the €305 million in 2024. All ten themes within the scheme will be opened simultaneously, which immediately offers entrepreneurs the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their innovative projects.
The increased subsidy amounts are intended to further support companies in realizing energy innovations that reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Demonstration projects can now count on funding of up to €30 million, while amounts of up to €25 million are available for pilots and experimental infrastructure. Companies must demonstrate that they are financially healthy before applying, as extra emphasis is being placed on this this year.
Within the Circular Economy theme, several changes have been implemented to offer entrepreneurs more flexibility. For example, the division between applications above and below €3 million has been abolished, so that there is now one total budget available, regardless of the amount of the application. In addition, new possibilities have been introduced for projects focused on circular design. Entrepreneurs must demonstrate that their product can be repaired or reused at the end of its technical lifespan.
An important part of the scheme focuses on the gasification of residual flows. This process makes it possible to convert residual flows into valuable raw materials for the circular economy, which contributes to material savings and a reduction in CO2 emissions. This fits in seamlessly with the objective of the DEI+ to support entrepreneurs in testing and demonstrating innovations that contribute to a more sustainable future.
Clarifications have also been made within the theme of renewable energy. Projects that focus on the installation, maintenance or demolition of offshore wind farms are now explicitly eligible for subsidy. The focus here is primarily on ecological and economic improvements that contribute to the energy transition.
The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) implements the DEI+ subsidy on behalf of the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth. The aim is to support projects that contribute both directly and indirectly to reducing CO2 emissions. From flexible electricity systems and hydrogen applications to energy savings and natural gas-free solutions in the built environment, the possibilities within the scheme are broad and versatile.
Entrepreneurs can submit their applications from 28 January 2025. The increased budget and new opportunities within the scheme offer a unique opportunity to further develop and demonstrate innovative energy and climate projects. This not only contributes to a more sustainable future, but also to strengthening the Dutch economy.
