Relement has entered into a purchasing agreement with Worlée Chemie GmbH, a leading German chemical company. This agreement secures a fixed quantity of bio MPA, an innovative and biobased raw material for use in coating resins.
Bio MPA, Relement’s first product, will be produced on a tonne scale via contract manufacturing by the end of 2025. This material is designed to replace fossil components in alkyd resins, with sustainability and performance benefits. Over the past four years, Relement and Worlée have worked closely together to integrate Bio MPA into coating resins. This has led to improvements such as higher hardness, lower viscosity (for less solvent usage), faster drying times and improved gloss.
Worlée plans to introduce a range of bio-MPA alkyd resins to selected European coatings manufacturers. In addition, the agreement opens the door to further development of resins for a wider range of applications. With this, both companies underline their joint commitment to sustainable innovation in the coatings industry.
Joachim Freude, Managing Director at Worlée Chemie, comments: “We are excited to bring new biobased alkyd resins to the market that will enable our customers to develop more sustainable coatings without compromising on quality. Bio MPA is an important step in replacing fossil raw materials in our formulations.”
Roger Blokland, CEO of Relement, added: “We are very pleased to extend our collaboration with Worlée. This agreement is an important milestone for us. It brings us closer to the commercialization of bio MPA and underlines the value of strong partnerships in building a sustainable, biobased value chain. We are proud to respond to the growing demand for greener and more efficient products together with Worlée.”
