ChainCraft and Royal Avebe have signed a Heads of Agreement, laying the foundation for a strategic partnership. The partnership focuses on utilizing Avebe’s potato juice residual flows, which are converted into high-quality circular fatty acids and fertilizers using ChainCraft’s innovative fermentation technology. The Ter Apelkanaal location, situated on and near Avebe’s premises, has been designated as the intended location for the first implementation of this promising project.
Sustainability and circularity are central
Royal Avebe has been committed to sustainability and the circular economy for years. The company is continuously looking for ways to minimize waste, reduce the CO2 footprint and create added value within the potato processing chain. The collaboration with ChainCraft fits in seamlessly with this vision. By using residual flows such as potato juice in an innovative way, the project not only contributes to a lower environmental impact, but also supports sustainable agricultural practices.
“We are excited to partner with ChainCraft and take this next step in our sustainability journey,” said David Fousert, CEO of Avebe. “With ChainCraft’s technology, we can convert potato juice into circular products such as fatty acids and fertilizers. This increases circularity, saves energy and makes our production processes more efficient. Ultimately, this has a positive effect on the earning power of our members. Furthermore, this collaboration contributes to a more sustainable agricultural sector and region in the Northern Netherlands, and creates opportunities for employment.”
Innovative fermentation technology
ChainCraft has developed a unique technology that converts organic waste flows into valuable raw materials. This technology offers a sustainable alternative to petroleum and palm oil, and contributes to the preservation of biodiversity by combating deforestation. The products are used in various sectors such as chemicals, animal feed, and the fragrance and flavour industry, enabling companies to achieve their climate goals.
“At ChainCraft, our mission is to accelerate the transition to a circular bioeconomy,” said Niels van Stralen, Founder & Chief Growth Officer of ChainCraft. “Working with a forward-thinking partner like Avebe enables us to scale our technology to a commercial plant and demonstrate the potential of our solution. This is an important milestone in our ambition to make the industry more sustainable.”
Added value for the Northern Netherlands
The plans not only offer economic benefits for the companies involved, but also strengthen the position of the Northern Netherlands as a centre for sustainable agriculture and innovation. In addition to reducing the ecological footprint, the project contributes to local employment and the development of a circular industry.
In the coming period, ChainCraft and Avebe will work on the further specification of their long-term collaboration and the financing trajectory for the construction of the first large-scale factory.
