The Netherlands is increasingly taking steps in the use of renewable energy sources, such as wind turbines, solar panels, geothermal heat, heat pumps and biomass. But how does the generation of sustainable energy actually work? On the Open Energy Day, which takes place on 21 September, you will have the opportunity to discover this for yourself! Throughout the Netherlands, various locations and projects will open their doors to interested parties.
Every year, the Open Energy Day attracts thousands of visitors, including last year the then Minister of Climate, Rob Jetten. “There are many places you can visit during the Open Energy Day. I hope that thousands of Dutch people will do so and that they will be inspired for the energy transition,” he says.
Olof van der Gaag, chairman of the Dutch Sustainable Energy Association (NVDE), adds: “It’s great that so many people are interested in the world behind their sockets and thermostats. Citizen involvement is vital, because we are on our way together in this transition to a sustainable energy supply.”
Would you like to take a look behind the scenes of a biomass installation, a solar panel project or another sustainable energy source in your area?
All locations you can visit can be found at www.daar Krijgjeenergievan.nl/open-energiedag.
Biomass related projects that have been registered:
Outpost
- Rijksstraatweg 17A, 7391 MH, Twello
- 10:00 – 12:00
- Website
Visit to Buitenpost, with a setup of the biomass stove, with which they heat the stove in a greenhouse using a wood chip stove and mescantis.
EcoFuels: Green gas, electricity, heat, CO2 and clean water from cutting waste and residual flows from plant cultivation, the food and luxury food industry
- Veenweg 4, 5855 ES, Well
- 10:00 – 16:00
- Website
EcoFuels produces energy, CO₂ and clean water from cutting waste and residual flows from plant cultivation, food and luxury food industries by fermenting these types of waste. The biogas that is collected is partly converted into electricity and heat in 2 large combustion engines. Another part of the biogas is upgraded to green gas.
Visitors who register will be given an explanation of the process at EcoFuels and then an extensive tour of the location. Minimum age for visitors is 16 years.
Energy hub BECC
- The Netherlands
- 11:00 – 13:00
- Website
In recent years, BECC has transformed from a baseload biomass power plant to a flexible energy hub that supplies heat to surrounding industry and electricity is supplied when needed, including storage in a large battery and an electric boiler.
There will be a presentation on the history and developments of BECC, followed by a tour of the site
Heat for the heating network from a hybrid sustainable energy installation
- Computerweg 26, 3821 AA, Amersfoort
- 10:00 – 11:30
12:00 – 13:30
14:00 – 15:30 - Website
This brand new hybrid sustainable energy installation by Eemwarmte combines multiple heating techniques to supply heat to the Amersfoort heating network. See with your own eyes what is really meant by 'sustainable bio-based raw materials' and how extra heat is generated from the combination of solar energy, residual heat and heat pumps.
They want to open the doors of the brand new hybrid sustainable energy installation (DEI) of our heat supplier Eemwarmte to the residents of Amersfoort. Bio-based raw materials are completely 'out' in the public opinion, but they want to show that you can use sustainably certified bio-based raw materials as a springboard for even more sustainable heat.
On September 21st they will give tours to three different groups. The morning group is from 10:00 to 11:30, the first afternoon group is from 12:00 to 13:30 and the second afternoon group is from 14:00 to 15:30. Please register for a tour via the form on the website.
The NVDE, in collaboration with industry associations NedZero, Holland Solar, Energie Samen, Bodemenergie, Geothermie Nederland and Vereniging Warmtepompen, has launched the campaign “Dat krijg je energie van” (That gives you energy). Part of this campaign is the Open Energy Day.
