Her Majesty Queen Máxima will open the 'FirstBio11Shipping' installation at waste processor Attero in Wilp on Wednesday afternoon, 2 September. This installation converts biogas, derived from the fermentation of vegetable, fruit and garden waste (gft), into liquid biogas, also known as bio-LNG. This sustainable alternative to conventional fuels is intended for use in the maritime transport sector and heavy road transport.
During the plenary programme, there will be a panel discussion on, among other things, the production of raw materials and energy from waste and on the sustainability of the maritime transport sector and heavy road transport. Queen Máxima will speak with the participants of the panel discussion and, after the opening ceremony, will be given a tour of the various parts of the installation. Employees will provide information on the processing of organic waste, on the production of biogas and biofuel and on the replacement of conventional fuels with clean fuels.
The 'FirstBio2Shipping' installation is a result of a collaboration between Attero and Nordsol. Attero supplies the organic waste and takes care of the initial production of biogas, while Nordsol further processes the biogas into bio-LNG. This bio-LNG is then used as a clean fuel for ships and trucks, with which the sector takes steps towards a more sustainable future.
Attero processes 3,6 million tons of waste into raw materials and energy each year. The company uses organic waste to make green gas, compost and plastic. Metal and beverage cartons are recycled into new raw materials. Residual waste is used to make heat, electricity, green gas and building materials. Attero also processes rubble and contaminated soil into clean building materials.
