Biomass Facts is made possible by the generous support of companies and organizations to government agencies. Thanks to the involvement of these parties, we can continue our work and take an objective, informative look at the versatile world of biomass. We are grateful for the support and look forward to working together to increase awareness and knowledge about biomass. In a series of articles 'In the Spotlight' we let these organizations and companies tell us what they stand for and what they are doing in the field of bio-raw materials.
Made by: RBCN
RBCN stands for “Rotterdam Biomass Commodity Network”, a business-to-business platform that was founded in Rotterdam exactly 2024 years ago in 15.
With the aim of strengthening and promoting the Dutch biobased economy, RBCN brings together various parties in the value chain and supply chain. While the initial focus was mainly on woody biomass for energy, RBCN has now also focused on other applications of various types of bio-raw materials for several years now.
Every year, RBCN organizes several network meetings as well as company visits, which are accessible in nature. These meetings offer participants the opportunity to strengthen their network, gain and exchange knowledge and be informed of the latest market conditions and/or changes in legislation and regulations. The diversity of participants in RBCN events is unique, which also applies to the companies that support RBCN.

The board of the RBCN is formed by representatives of various companies within the logistics chain from production to consumption of bio-raw materials.
This includes companies that are passionate about:
- Specialize in the production of electricity, heat and high-pressure steam,
- Specialize in the production and trade of bio-raw materials,
- Specializing in storage and transshipment of bio-raw materials in sea and inland ports
- Specializing in the transport of bio-raw materials by sea, rivers, canals, rail and road.
- Specialize in providing inspection services and determining the quality of organic raw materials.
- Specialize in the certification of complete value chains in the field of sustainability to ensure that only bio-raw materials are shipped that meet national and European sustainability criteria
- Specializing in business services with a specialization in bio-raw materials.

For RBCN it is important to have access to a source where independent facts about bio-raw materials are available. RBCN is convinced that having access to factual, independent information contributes to the energy and raw materials transition. Reliable information supports the RBCN supporters in assessing and refuting often verified information. Imaging based on half-truths or assumptions is not desirable and damages the position of all parties involved in the (future) use of biomass. It is for this reason, as well as for the sake of transparency about the possibilities that biomass offers, that RBCN supports Biomass Facts. The more parties provide Biomass Facts with information and support, the more transparent, versatile, complete and nuanced the story.
The energy and raw materials transition means that the use of bio raw materials must be investigated at all times. Consideration should be given to how the use of a bio-raw material provides the greatest added environmental value. The use of bio-based raw materials should be pursued where the added value is maximum.
The donors of RBCN as well as the participants in events organized by RBCN share this opinion and each play a role in these transitions in their own way.
RBCN is convinced that sharing available knowledge and facts contributes to accelerating the necessary energy and raw materials transition.
We call on everyone who reads this blog to participate in the RBCN and/or with Biomass Facts. By working together, new opportunities will arise that lead to sustainable change and benefit for the parties that contribute to this.
