Last week, CBE JU published its call for project proposals for 2024. A total of 213 million euros will be spent on promoting competitive circular biobased industries in Europe, spread over 18 topics. All stakeholders in the circular biobased sector can submit an application before the deadline of September 18, 2024, 17.00:XNUMX PM Brussels time.
In 2024, CBE JU will continue to support the scale-up of technologies leading to industrial deployment, stimulating investment and job creation at regional and local levels, in line with CBE JU's objectives:
- Accelerating the innovation process and the development of biobased innovative solutions
- Accelerating the market introduction of existing mature and innovative biobased solutions
- Ensuring a high level of environmental performance of biobased industrial systems.
Project applicants will support the implementation of these objectives through 18 topics with a total indicative budget of 213 million euros:
Innovation actions – flagship (IA flagship)
- Biobased value chains for the valorization of sustainable oil crops – €20 million
- Special biobased platform chemicals via cost-effective, sustainable and resource-efficient conversion of biomass – €20 million
- biobased value chains for the valorization of sustainable natural fiber raw materials – €20 million
Innovation actions (IA)
- Biobased materials and products for applications that are biodegradable in the soil – €15 million
- Sustainable microalgae as raw material for innovative applications with added value – €15 million
- Expansion of the portfolio of commercially produced “Safe and Sustainable by Design” (SSbD) solvents – €15 million
- Circular and SSbD biobased building and construction materials with functional properties – €15 million
- Selective and sustainable (co)production of lignin-derived aromatics – €15 million
- Innovative biobased adhesives and binders for circular products that meet market requirements – €15 million
- Innovative conversion of biogenic gaseous carbon into biobased chemicals, ingredients and materials – €15 million
Research and Innovation Actions (RIA)
- Valorisation of polluted/contaminated wood from industrial and post-consumer waste streams – €7 million
- Biotechnological routes for obtaining biobased chemicals/materials to replace chemicals and materials of animal origin – €7 million
- Sustainable, biobased alternatives for crop protection – €10 million
- SSbD biobased coating materials for applications under demanding and/or extreme conditions – €7 million
- Innovative biobased ingredients for food/feed – €7 million
Coordination and Support Actions (CSA)
- New forms of cooperation in the agricultural and forestry sectors – €4 million
- Mobilizing inclusive participation in biobased systems and supporting the strategy for broadening the CBE JU and the associated action plan – €3 million
- Support for the CBE JU Deployment Group primary producers – €3 million
