A bench made of poop, elephant poop. It may not sound very fresh, but at Artis they are completely happy with it. This sustainable bench was developed by Circulus together with the zoo in Amsterdam.
From bio-based benches and waste bins, fauna grids, fencing, reflector posts, planters to circular fences, Circulus makes it from the point of view of making public spaces more sustainable. In addition to ready-made end products, customization can also be delivered. The products are made from waste streams of natural fibers and plastic.
The goal of Circulus is to make natural fiber and plastic waste flows actually circular. The circular chain is leading in their business philosophy and the result is biobased products for a circular economy. In a circular economy, residual flows are viewed as potential resources that can be reused, recycled or converted into new products or materials instead of being thrown away. To make an impact, Circulus is working on a wide range of different waste and residual flows. From the natural fiber side, you should think of roadside grass, elephant grass and waste wood. And from the plastic side, various waste streams such as PE, PP, HDPE, EPS, etc. You wouldn't immediately think so, but the combination of natural fibers with plastic adds added value to the product. The character properties are improved because the natural fibers form a matrix to which the plastic binds.
