With the holidays approaching, research by ASN Bank shows that one in three Dutch people plans to buy sustainable gifts more often. Although the majority of Dutch people have not yet purchased sustainable gifts this year, the research points to a growing interest in sustainability during the giving season. This change in purchasing behavior offers an opportunity to consume more consciously and contribute to a more sustainable world.
The Sustainable Gift Guide, presented by ASN Bank, comes at the right time to put these intentions into practice. The guide contains 50 inspiring gift tips for anyone who wants to give or receive sustainable gifts during the holidays. From mushroom grow kits to shampoo bars with oil from orange peels, the guide offers a varied selection that takes sustainability into account at different levels.
According to the research, 36% of Dutch people plan to give sustainable gifts more often. The motivations vary, including the importance of sustainable materials, fair pay for makers, and the appeal of the story behind the product. The realization that choosing sustainable gifts not only makes the recipient happy, but also has a positive impact on the world, encourages people to shop more consciously.
Many Dutch people look for gift inspiration online, but often miss specific ideas for sustainable gifts. The Sustainable Gift Guide responds to this by offering a varied selection, including care products, sporting goods, outdoor equipment and more, all with a focus on sustainability.
Renée Ras, lead brand, mission and customer relationship at ASN Bank, emphasizes the importance of consciously choosing gifts: “Sustainability is not a point of attention for many people when they buy gifts. But even if you have something to celebrate, you can do so with gifts that do not have a negative impact on the earth, nature and people.”
The research also shows that people who make wish lists need inspiration for sustainable gifts. Only one in five Dutch people consciously put a sustainable gift on their list. Renée encourages people to express their preference for sustainable gifts to those around them.
The Sustainable Gift Guide, consisting of seven categories, not only offers inspiration but also discount codes for many of the gifts presented. In addition to the guide, ASN Bank encourages people to make sustainable choices through its 'From Here' platform.
