These will be different House of Representatives elections than usual, after the fall of the cabinet. The period to prepare for this is short, and that includes the entire summer holidays. In addition to the overview of StemWijzer and other electoral guides, we will keep you informed of developments and positions in the run-up, especially when it comes to sustainability and democracy.
There are currently 17 parties in parliament and a total of more than 30 parties are likely to participate in the 2023 elections.
Of course, plenty of soundings are already being done. If you want to immediately see how your favorite party is doing, take a look at the overview page with all polls of Sustainable News.
Election programs
Look here for the election manifestos per party:
BBB - At 1 - BVNL - CDA - CU - D66 - Think - FvD - GroenLinks / PvdA - JA21 - NSC - Animal party - PVV - SGP - SP - Volt - VVD - 50plus
The CPB and the PBL have calculated election programs for 2021 in terms of climate impact, economic and social effect. This shows, among other things, that most parties will not achieve their own climate goals and that the costs for economic recovery will be postponed to the future. You can find more about that here.
Attention to climate is a must
More than ever, it looks like political parties will also be held to account for their climate policy during elections, even the VVD. Because no fewer than 91% of Dutch people believe that a new government should do more against the climate crisis. The government must ensure that large polluting companies adhere to the Paris climate agreement. This is evident from one voter survey by I&O Research on behalf of Milieudefensie.
Sustainable behavior: environmental label politics
In the election manifestos you can read a list of promises. That's great, but you can also look at the actual voting behavior of parties when it comes to sustainability. That has been mapped out by Kiesclimate.nl and made visible in an environmental label, as you know from electrical appliances.
