The House of Representatives elections will be held in the Netherlands within a month. A flash poll conducted by ASN Bank shows that sustainability is an important theme for as many as 4 in 10 voters when making their choice for a political party. It is striking, however, that only 1 in 5 voters indicate that they have a good insight into the sustainability positions of the various political parties. For this reason, ASN Bank has launched the Sustainable Voting Guide, which presents the positions of 6 political parties on 16 important sustainability themes for the upcoming elections.
The flash poll shows that almost half of voters see their vote as a way to contribute to a more sustainable world. About 25% of voters actively research the sustainability positions of political parties by, for example, visiting party websites or reading election manifestos. Piet Sprengers, Head of Sustainability Strategy at ASN Bank, emphasizes the importance of these efforts: “Because not everyone takes the time for this, we have done the preliminary work. With the Sustainable Voting Guide we make it easier to vote green in a well-considered manner.”
The Sustainable Voting Guide offers voters insight into the positions of various political parties with regard to important sustainability topics, such as cheaper public transport and the construction of more affordable small or collective homes. However, the parties' positions differ when it comes to issues such as agriculture, nature conservation, true pricing and the construction of new nuclear power stations.
Younger voters attach more importance to sustainability than older voters. The flash poll shows that voters under the age of 30 consider sustainability even more important than older voters. Additionally, a greater number of young adults believe their voice actually has an impact on advancing sustainability (54%), compared to 42% of those in their 47s. Young voters also show more interest in understanding the sustainability positions of political parties (39% compared to XNUMX% of all voters).

About the Sustainable Voting Guide
To create the Sustainable Voting Guide, ASN Bank approached 9 political parties that were expected to obtain 2023 or more seats according to the IPSOS seat poll (September 5). Six of these parties responded to the questions submitted to them by ASN Bank. The parties NSC, BBB and PVV have not responded to the questions asked.
About the flash poll
On October 11 and 12, 2023, ASN Bank conducted a flash poll among 1.000 respondents aged 18 and older via Factsnapp. This poll focused on sustainability and the House of Representatives elections that will take place on November 22, 2023.
