On Thursday, August 31, Platform Bio-Economie presented the 11th edition of the annual report on the use of woody biomass in the Netherlands. The Bio-Economy Platform believes it is very important that they can make transparent and well-founded figures available to government, the business community and ultimately to Dutch citizens so that they can monitor developments in this domain. Collaboration between the government and the business community is of great importance, which is underlined by the good participation in this report. In the coming years, with a view to an even greater degree of transparency, even higher participation is desirable.
A conclusion from this report is that the use of woody biomass is still mainly used for energy production. This will have to expand significantly in the coming years towards biofuels, green gas and chemicals and related sectors. With the Bio-Economy Platform (PBE), they are already responding to this expansion in the market and are actively seeking cooperation with these sectors. In order to provide a complete picture of the development of the use of biomass in the Netherlands in the coming years, they also have the ambition to broaden the scope of this report in consultation with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. Platform Bio-Economie will enter into discussions with parties to determine how they can implement this in the future.
