The Finnish biofuel maker Neste has found a way to make PET bottles based on, among other things, used frying fat. The website Nieuws.nl reports this.
This concerns a new application of the Finnish manufacturer's own product: Neste RE. This is a raw material for the production of so-called polymers. The Finns make this product entirely based on renewable raw materials, including used frying fat. Oil company Eneos then uses this Neste RE to produce a special PET resin.
Bottles
Japanese drinks manufacturer Suntory will use this renewable resin to produce bottles for its products from 2024. Suntory makes soft drinks and spirits, among other things. In Japan, this company is also behind the Pepsi brand bottles.
According to Neste, the new collaboration will help tackle the climate crisis and its consequences. In this way, the dependence on fossil raw materials for PET bottles would be limited.
