A new border region project that will recruit, train, retrain and further train young people and adults for professions to make the energy transition possible has started. For the next 3 years, Avans University of Applied Sciences will be the coordinator of the Energy(k) Education project that is being implemented under the Interreg program Flanders Netherlands with a subsidy from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). 18 educational institutions, governments, a regional career fund, a regional intermediary and an entrepreneurial organization from the South of the Netherlands and Flanders work together in the project. The project was realized last year through intensive collaboration between the project partners and Promint project management and has a budget of € 4.200.000.
Energy transition requires skilled personnel
Over the past 10 years, the focus of the energy transition has largely been on developing and testing innovative energy technologies. A necessary condition but certainly not the only condition for the success of this major social task. More and skilled (energy) technical personnel at all training levels has increasingly become a bottleneck. It is good that more and more attention is being paid to this and the project from all sides Energy(k) Education would like to contribute to this.
The road to success
The project Energy(k) education is doing everything it can to prevent the energy transition from stalling due to personnel shortages in the energy sector. We do this by:
- Make the qualitative and quantitative demand for (energy) technical personnel from the market visible;
- Develop new and better education programs focused on the energy transition;
- Develop retraining programs for lateral entrants;
- Develop further training programs for current staff and teachers;
- To inspire pupils, students and lateral entrants for a future in the energy transition;
- Promote national and regional cooperation between education, government and business;
- Creating hybrid learning-workplaces at educational institutions and companies.
Collaboration across borders
The challenges we face on both sides of the border are similar. That is why there will be intensive collaboration between these 18 project partners in the South of the Netherlands and Flanders in the coming years:
Avans University of Applied Sciences, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, Zeeland University of Applied Sciences, Thomas More University of Applied Sciences, Vives University of Applied Sciences, Curio, ROC Da Vinci College, Koning Willem 1 College, ROC ter AA, ROC Tilburg, Scalda, Summa College, Katholiek Onderwijs Vlaanderen, Mtech+, Province of Antwerp, RTC East Flanders, Flemish Energy and Climate Agency (VEKA) and Wij-Techniek (also on behalf of Techniek Nederland).
Because only through cross-border cooperation will we achieve a smarter and greener Europe!
