Together with a broad social coalition, we call on the House of Representatives not to let the climate approach come to a standstill. Simply because we will not achieve our climate goals, but certainly also because citizens, employees and companies need stable and predictable policy.
The National Climate Platform sent the following letter to the House of Representatives on July 9:
To the members and faction leaders of the House of Representatives,
The fall of the Rutte IV cabinet means that political and administrative progress on many issues is in danger of coming to a standstill for a long time. It also means unrest in The Hague because the election campaign has started. With all the challenges, the Netherlands cannot afford that. Together with the decentralized authorities, we call on you to do everything you can to prevent the Netherlands from coming to a standstill. Parliament must be able to make decisions that are necessary to keep this country running.
A proactive approach is needed
The climate approach is definitely one of those challenges. It must not come to a standstill now. Simply because we will not achieve our climate goals, but certainly also because citizens, employees and companies need stable and predictable policy. Countless entrepreneurs and industry are working on ambitious plans to make their production and services more sustainable. Citizens and cooperatives everywhere are active in saving and generating their own sustainable energy. Many public implementers are working hard on the energy transition day in and day out. For example, the full electricity grid requires an extremely energetic approach, and this applies to the sustainability of the entire energy system on which citizens and companies must simply be able to count. Everyone needs to know where they stand in order to make the right decisions and invest.
Focus on doing
If something is needed on the climate theme in the near future, it is maximum focus on doing, on implementation. This requires clarity and stability on the policy front. We must continue to solve the obstacles we face. There is great social and political support for clear and stable climate policy. That is why we call on you to ensure that there is no delay, especially now that the acceleration has started. We must continue!
Sincerely,

Practical examples wanted!
We want to strengthen the call to the House of Representatives not to let the climate approach come to a standstill with the help of concrete practical examples.
What challenges does your organization, company or social initiative face if progress on energy and climate policy threatens to come to a standstill for a longer period of time? Which concrete plans or ambitions are at risk of delay and what is needed to continue?
If you support the call to the House of Representatives, strengthen it with your practical example(s) and send it to signals@nkp.nl. The National Climate Platform will soon bundle all these signals in order to provide clear advice to politicians in The Hague.
