Groningen's economy is rapidly becoming greener and more sustainable. In Farmsum, the Verborg Group is building a new production company that will refine vegetable oils and fats on an industrial scale. The province awards a subsidy of € 2,4 million for this.
Bio raw materials
The Verborg Group is an initiative of Borgesius Group that will involve intensive collaboration with Contitank. The Borgesius Group has built up years of experience and expertise in the field of vegetable oils and by-products. Contitank specializes in the storage and logistics services of bio-raw materials.
Pure
The Verborg Group is a new production company for the refining and processing of raw bio-raw materials into pure vegetable oils and fats. In the transformation to a post-fossil economy, natural bio raw materials have an important role to play into useful building blocks for agricultural, food and technical applications. The factory, which will initially employ 24 people, will have a production capacity of 600 tons per day and aims to be fully operational at the beginning of 2024. The bio-refinery will be located at the Contitank location in the former, decommissioned Nedalco factory. The availability of a valid permit for this factory, the innovation climate and access to the seaport are decisive location factors for the company.
Magnet
The total investment amounts to approximately €35 million. Of this amount, an amount of €12 million is eligible for a subsidy. The provincial contribution comes from the Subsidy Scheme for Investing in Future-Proof Industry Groningen and is made available by the SNN.
Attractive effect
Deputy IJzebrand Rijzebol is happy with the location of the company. “The application of bio-raw materials in industry is a development that is taking off in the Eemsmond. We do everything we can to stimulate this development. The start of this sustainable refinery is another big step. Perhaps even more importantly, this gives new impetus to the green trend in our strong chemical sector. I expect an attractive effect from the refinery on other, including foreign, companies.”
