Europe's biogas and biomethane industries are ready to fully commit to scaling up the sector and producing at least 2030 billion cubic meters (bcm) of biomethane by 35, delegates were told at the European Biogas Association (EBA) annual conference to hear.
On October 25-26, 2022 in Brussels, Belgium, more than 350 delegates, including policymakers, academia, industry representatives and civil society organizations, participated in the sold-out event.
Against the backdrop of the ongoing energy crisis, the two-day program addressed critical issues and opportunities for the sector.
These industries today supply the cheapest and most scalable renewable gas produced in Europe, Harmen Dekker, CEO of the EBA, emphasized during the closing ceremony.
An important topic on the agenda was the sustainable achievement of the 35 bcm biomethane production target per year by 2030.
During his participation in one of the panels, Diederik Samsom, Chief of Cabinet of the Commission's EPP, urged the industry to "be braver and speak louder" about the sector's benefits, projects and investments as Europe makes biomethane more sustainable and larger scale projects in 2030.
