The biomass annual report for 30 was presented and handed over on Thursday, June 2021, during the Business Meeting of Platform Bio-Economie. Jos Keurentjes, chairman of the Bio-Economie Platform, presented the first edition to Julie Fraiture, Economic Affairs & Climate, who received it on behalf of our client, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment. Both emphasized the importance of factual figures to explain the development of the use of biomass and the growing share of sustainably certified biomass.
An important conclusion from this report is that the use of woody biomass continues to show significant growth. This underlines the importance of biomass as a sustainable raw material for the bioeconomy. It is important to note that the vast majority (more than 80%) is supplied under a sustainability certificate and that the remainder mainly concerns relatively small residual and waste flows.
Another important point of attention for this report is that the business community, politicians and government are increasingly stating that biomass will be an important factor in the raw materials transition.
The annual biomass report is drawn up annually by Platform Bioeconomie on behalf of I&W. The information is collected by means of a survey among all market parties.
