The business community in the Central and West Brabant region is ready to make a significant contribution to making the Dutch economy more sustainable in the coming years.
Plans are ready from 6 leading companies for, among other things, CO2 capture and utilization, electrification of production processes and the production of green hydrogen. Together, these projects can even lead to negative CO2 emissions. To achieve this sustainability, the construction of new infrastructure is necessary.
These negative CO2 emissions can be achieved, among other things, by capturing, reusing and storing CO2 from bio raw materials.
In addition, the companies can supply heat to surrounding municipalities that is equivalent to the consumption of 200.000 homes and the production capacity of hydrogen is increased. Finally, circular working in the use of raw materials is being further developed.
Declaration of Intent
The province of North Brabant and the collaborating companies in the Central and West Brabant Industry Table - Attero, Cosun, Ennatuurlijk, RWE, SABIC and Shell - signed a declaration of intent on May 12. The joint intention is to realize sustainable projects that reduce CO2 emissions and accelerate the energy transition. The companies work intensively together to connect with grid operators and the government to provide clarity about the required infrastructure for the ambitious plans. This involves pipelines for the transport of CO2 and hydrogen, expansions of the heating network, and strengthening of the electricity grid in the region. The express intention is that smaller companies can become more sustainable and benefit thanks to the investments and efforts of the collaborating industrial partners.
Deputy Anne-Marie Spierings of Energy, Circular Economy and Environment: “The province welcomes the fact that the industry in Central and West Brabant is helping to tackle climate problems in mutual cooperation.”
Construction of new infrastructure
The Central and West Brabant Industry Table is a regional initiative for and by companies. In recent years, the region has already achieved a CO2 emission reduction of 35% compared to 1990 through energy savings and smart links between business processes. Further sustainability requires the construction of new infrastructure. The Industry Table shows that the potential for further savings and sustainability of production processes in the region is so great that rapid realization of this infrastructure is desirable.
In the coming weeks, the parties involved will work in consultation with the government, grid operators and municipalities in the region to realize the plans and the intended CO2 savings and energy transition in the coming years.
