“In primary school I once walked with my neighbor, who worked for Staatsbosbeheer. I am now allowed to manage one of the largest deciduous forests in Western Europe. If it is useful for the soil, I think it is important to leave the branch wood. But in Flevoland the soil is so rich in itself that we can also look for another use for it. This could involve generating energy, so that you do not need oil or gas for that. It would be even better if we could process those wood chips into insulation boards, for example. Because if such a plate is in a house for 100 years, the stored CO2 will not enter the air for 100 years.”
