It took us 100 years to build the current chemical industry. We only have 30 years for the next transition, because the climate goals assume an industry based on renewable raw materials in 2050.
“In theory, that is possible,” says Martin Junginger, professor of Biobased Economics at the Copernicus Institute of Utrecht University. Junginer speaks during the VNCI Podcast about bio-raw materials. “But in practice it will be a huge challenge. No more than 1 or 2 percent of current raw materials are biobased. If we want to achieve the goals, we should focus all investments on that from now on.”
